What started as Enoteca in Milan grew into a pioneer in Piedmont
Around 1970, when wines from Piedmont - such as barolo - were hardly known outside Italy, Livio Pavese started an 'enoteca' (wine shop) in Milan. He pioneered Piedmontese wines abroad. The Barbera del Monferrato opened markets for him and is also the most successful variety in his range. After Livio's death in 2004, the passionate Giuseppe Bottinelli took over the company.
He modernized the wine cellar with the latest technology and has made the wood-aged barbera even better. The Monferrato region is overshadowed by the fame of the much better known Langhe with famous names such as barolo barbaresco and alba. From the start, Livio selected grapes from this more southern and undervalued region because of the excellent price-quality ratio.
The grapes are picked by hand from mid-September and after fermentation the wine matures for a long time in large oak barrels.
