Tasting note Livio Pavese
Full red Italian wine with the scent of cedar wood spices and ripe candied fruit. The taste is smooth and full. Delicious with lightly spiced dishes from the oven or from the grill.
Description
Around 1970 when wines from Piemonte - such as barolo - were hardly known outside Italy, Livio Pavese started an 'enoteca' (wine shop) in Milan. He pioneered with Piemontese wines abroad. The barbera del monferrato opened markets for him and is also the most successful variety in its range. After Livio's death in 2004, passionate Giuseppe Bottinelli took over the company.
He modernized the wine cellar with the latest technology and made the wood-aged barbera even better. The Monferrato region is overshadowed by the fame of the much better known Langhe with famous names such as barolo barbaresco and alba. From the beginning Livio selected grapes from this more southerly and undervalued region for its excellent value for money.
The grapes are picked by hand from mid-September and after fermentation, the wine matures for a long time in large oak casks.
