Tasting note Livio Pavese
Full-bodied Italian wine with the scent of cedarwood herbs and ripe candied fruit. The taste is smooth and full. Delicious with lightly spiced dishes from the oven or from the grill.
Around 1970, when wines from Piemonte - such as barolo - were hardly known outside Italy, Livio Pavese started an 'enoteca' (wine store) in Milan. He pioneered Piemontese wines abroad. The barbera del monferrato opened markets for him and is also the most successful variety in his range. After the death of Livio in 2004, the passionate Giuseppe Bottinelli took over the company.
He modernized the wine cellar with the latest technology and made the wood-aged barbera even better. The Monferrato region is overshadowed by the reputation of the much better known Langhe with famous names such as barolo barbaresco and alba. Livio selected from the beginning grapes from this more southern and undervalued region because of the excellent price-quality ratio.
The grapes are picked by hand from mid-September and after fermentation the wine ripens for a considerable time in large oak casks.
