Anyone seeking distinctive quality in Italy's Abruzzo region will quickly find themselves in a small group of passionate small wineries. One of these is the young Azienda Collefrisio near the town of Frisa, southeast of Pescara. A small operation produces excellent wines from some 35 hectares of organically farmed vineyards, among the very best in the region. The best wine from this azienda is the Collefrisio di Collefrisio, made using traditional methods. The grapes are macerated for a long time and aged for extended periods in small oak barrels. This wine graced the dinner tables at the 2010 G8 conference in L'Aquila. Tip: serve it from a carafe!
