Tasting note Chakana Chardonnay
Beautiful, aromatic dry white wine with ripe tropical fruit and mild oak nuances in the scent. The taste is soft, fragrant and round and has a full, lingering aromatic aftertaste.
The best bodegas in the wine region around Mendoza are rapidly increasing their terroir expression. A good example of this is Chakana. With the help of external experts such as the Chilean terroir specialist Pedro Parra and the Italian Alberto Antonini, organic cultivation with low yields has been implemented. New locations are sought when planting new vineyards. The choice of grapes is much more determined than before by the microclimate and the soil conditions of the plots. It is a complex search for an optimal interaction between the right grape and the terroir. The vineyard in question is located at an altitude of no less than 1,100 meters and is completely organic and the grapes are picked by hand. Maturing takes place in oak casks and the egg-shaped cement tanks, which have quickly become popular with innovative winemakers. Chakana's efforts lead to more finesse in the wines. A good example is this chardonnay with 3% viognier addition from vineyards in Altamira. It is a beautiful white wine that is rewarded with a score of 90 points by the famous English-speaking wine writers James Suckling and Tim Atkin.
