Sustainability at Salcheto

The willow on the label is a very conscious choice. Of course there are many willows in the area, but Salcheto especially wants to indicate that they are very conscious of the environment. This way they are completely self-sufficient. They generate their own electricity and at the same time consume as little as possible. They collect their own water, purify it and use it in the cellars. Finally, they have chosen the lightest wine bottle on the market. This light bottle ensures the lowest possible emissions during transport around the world.

The beautifully maintained winery - where you can also enjoy good food, with vegetables from its own vegetable garden - has 50 hectares of vines spread over three vineyards. They are located at an altitude of about 450 meters, making them cooler and delivering grapes with better aromas. These grapes are largely typically Italian varieties, such as the blue pugnolo gentile (an alias of the well-known sangiovese) or the white trebbiano.

The Wines

Michele Manelli is the winemaker of Salcheto. His wines from the Chiusi vineyard, in the Chianti Colli Senesi appellation, are light, relaxed and lively. The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, from the Salcheto vineyard in Montepulciano, is rather a dark, powerful, wood-aged wine, which can reach a nice complexity. The 'younger brother', the Rosso di Montepulciano, is a softer, accessible version of this. These different types of wine have one thing in common: they score very high worldwide!
