Embarrass many Saint-Émilion |
Description
Wine has been made at the beautiful Château de Pitray for more than six hundred years, but it is anything but dormant. Jean de Boigne took over the management of the family winery from his parents in 2020 and is committed to bringing his wines to the top of the appellation.
He does this together with Nina Mitjavile, whom he appointed as an advisor. Raised in Saint-Émilion as the daughter of the striking wine personality François Mitjavile, she has a wealth of knowledge and experience. Together Nina and Jean made the necessary changes in the vineyards and cellar to significantly improve the quality.
If you taste this Pitray, the two are definitely successful. The merlot (90%) and cabernet franc grapes (10%) are harvested at optimal ripeness from approximately thirty-year-old vines. Once picked, the grapes are thoroughly sorted twice more. After fermentation, the wine matured in partly new oak barrels, partly used and partly stainless steel tanks for a balanced freshness.
The result is a simply beautiful, impressive red wine. With its ripe, dark fruit, power and finesse, polished tannin and seductive barrel aging, the Pitray has everything you want from a beautiful Right Bank Bordeaux. Highly recommended!
Drink with
Impressive, oak-aged red Bordeaux to enjoy with a refined meal. Great with Beef Wellington, lamb chops with green asparagus and baby potatoes or mature Gouda cheeses.
Tasting note
Deep ruby red wine with a layered scent of red cherry, plum, blueberry, licorice and beautiful oak. Powerful and intensely juicy with beautifully ripe dark fruit, balanced freshness and polished tannins. The aftertaste is long with nuances of cocoa and coffee.
