In this exquisite regional wine, Thierry Faravel brings together his two great loves in life: wine and music. Besides being the passionate winemaker of the renowned Gigondas estate La Bouïssière, Thierry is also a gifted jazz musician. He plays – you guessed it – the double bass. And not just any instrument: musicians worldwide are happy to borrow his special instrument for their studio recordings and performances.

For La Contrebasse Rouge, Thierry uses Rhône grapes Grenache and Syrah sourced from less noble vineyards than, for example, Gigondas – hence a Vin de France. However, they receive exactly the same care – in Gilles’ vineyard and in Thierry’s cellar – as the chic Rhône Crus from Bouïssière.

And that results in a wine like a double bass: one with power and finesse, with elegance and the unmistakable identity of a red wine from the southern Rhône Valley. It has the seductive juiciness of a vin de soif, but do not be fooled: beneath lies a serious structure, ensuring that you can safely keep this fine red for several more years.
