In this exquisite regional wine, Thierry Faravel unites his two great loves in life: wine and music. Besides being the passionate winemaker of the renowned Gigondas estate La Bouïssière, Thierry is also a gifted jazz musician. He plays—you guessed it—the double bass. And not just any bass: musicians worldwide happily borrow his remarkable instrument for their studio recordings and performances.

For La Contrebasse Rouge, Thierry uses Rhône Grenache and Syrah grapes, sourced from less prestigious vineyards than, for example, Gigondas – hence the Vin de France designation. However, they receive exactly the same care – in Gilles' vineyard and Thierry's cellar – as Bouïssière's elegant Rhône crus.

And that results in a wine like a double bass: one with power and finesse, with elegance and the unmistakable identity of a red wine from the southern Rhône Valley. It has the seductive juiciness of a vin de soif, but don't be fooled: underneath lies a serious structure, ensuring you can easily age this beautiful red for several years to come.
