Sylvie Vacheron and Bruno Gaspard, owners of the famous Châteauneuf-du-Pape domain Le Clos du Caillou, make an unparalleled and very accessible red Côtes du Rhône. The grapes come from a sixty-year-old vineyard in the municipality of Courthezon, planted mainly with Grenache.
That vineyard borders Châteauneuf-du-Pape and is farmed completely organically. The hand-picked grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks and traditional concrete vats, after which the wine matures in concrete vats. The goal of Vacheron and Gaspard is to make this wine as elegant as possible, while retaining the spiciness and fruit notes of the Grenache.
This incredibly beautiful Côtes du Rhône is therefore not a dark-colored solid wine. Its accessibility and great refinement make it far above the average quality of this well-known appellation. Feel free to serve the wine (in summer) slightly chilled, at about 15 to 16˚C. Drink it, for example, with sausage, pate or grilled chicken – enjoyment guaranteed.
