It seems like everything Jean Paul Brun touches turns to gold. The incredibly dedicated winemaker at Terres Dorées has a well-established reputation for his Burgundian-style red and white Beaujolais. This beautiful, subtle Saint-Amour is no exception.
Saint-Amour is the region's northernmost cru. The Gamay grapes come from vines that are approximately 50 years old. They are planted on granite soil, which gives the final wine a distinctive character.
After manual harvesting, the grapes are thoroughly sorted and destemmed. Brun de Gamay then ferments using the natural yeasts present on the grape skins. To preserve the intense, pure fruit character, the wine is finally aged in concrete rather than wooden vats.
The end result is stunning. The aroma alone: an intense perfume of fresh red fruit, complemented by floral, earthy, and peppery notes. And then the taste: super-pure fruit, a delicate yet powerful structure, vibrant, fresh acidity, and a complex, lingering finish. We can only say: it's love at first sight with this Saint-Amour.
