From Chateau Mourgues a delicious viognier
Fruity dry white wine with notes of apple, melon and some orange in the aroma. The taste is fresh, full and aromatic and ends with a juicy, fragrant aftertaste.
Wine house known from Galets rouge
The experienced and enthusiastic winemaker François Collard produces a small amount of pure Viognier of a special quality. He harvests the grapes in a small, organically certified vineyard at his beautiful Château Mourgues du Grès.
This historic winery is located just north of Arles, the famous 'van Gogh town' in the Camargue. It once served as a farm for the Ursuline monastic order. The nuns ('mourgues' in Provençal) made wine here from plots that contain a lot of sandstone ('grès' in French). The Rocky Nuns is therefore a playful homage to the sisters, who already knew that this was an excellent terroir for making good wines.
The hand-picked Viognier grapes remain in contact with the yeast cells for about three months after fermentation. This proven technique gives the wine more filling and flavor intensity and also makes it more suitable for bottle aging.
Besides the recognizable Viognier aromas, the Rocky Nuns also has a full and soft taste. In combination with the beautiful, fresh acids that are so characteristic of the excellent terroir of Mourgues du Grès, this Viognier is perfectly balanced. It is delicious as an aperitif but can also be used with fish and dishes with asparagus.
