Tasting note Buisonnier Chardonnay

A mildly dry Burgundy with fine ripe fruit and a light buttery aroma. Perfect with cold appetizers of meat or fish, but also delicious with poultry and baked fish dishes.

Description

In the summer of 2013, hailstorms wreaked havoc in the Côtes de Beaune. The result: a small harvest and rising prices, even for vintages that were still available. Despite the dramatic reports, we found a classic white Burgundy at an attractive price. A little further south, however, in the Côte Chalonnaise and at the Vignerons de Buxy, a cooperative of 120 family-owned vineyards.

Head oenologist Alain Pierre selects the grapes for the Buissonnier cuvée, plot by plot. The vineyards are situated high on the hills near Buxy, on chalky, gravelly soil. This is an ideal base for low yields and concentrated, long-ripening grapes.

Part of the harvest ferments in stainless steel tanks and part in oak barrels. Both wines are blended before bottling. While not a complex white Burgundy, it offers a beautiful expression of Chardonnay from the Côte Chalonnaise, with its characteristically accessible roundness and slightly oily flavor.
