Tasting note Mourgues du gresde Fue

Bright red in color, delicately spicy, slightly smoky and floral in scent. The flavor structure has a smooth attack and ends with slightly spicy tannin in the aftertaste.
Long description
There is a special story behind the creation of the Terre de Feu in 2003. Summer was exceptionally warm and dry that year. When processing the grapes, it appeared that the grenache had benefited enormously from this. From that moment on, François and Anne decided to bottle their most beautiful plot of grenache, with fifty-year-old sticks.

The plot is located on a steep hill, with a southern exposure. The bottom consists of clay covered with gallets, the famous flat round stones that you can also find in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Where the stones give off stored heat at night and thus help with ripening, the clay provides sufficient coolness and moisture in hot and dry years.

The small, concentrated grapes are harvested by hand. For an optimal balance, a very small amount of syrah and carignan from old sticks is added to the assembly. The wine is partly raised on wood: about half of it matures in used wooden barrels. François and Anne are not so much concerned with an emphatic wood flavor, but above all with some extra complexity.

The result is a beautifully expressive, classic grenache, with notes of red fruit and cocoa. A delicious wine with a variety of dishes, ranging from duck to spicy blue cheese. The Terre de Feu is already nice to drink, but can also be stored for several years.
