Tasting note Cour des Dames Syrah

Deep red wine with purple hues and a vibrant, fruity aroma of blueberries, blackberries, and a hint of oak. A delicious glass to drink on its own, but also perfect with barbecues or spicy snacks.

Description

Syrah is fast becoming a major success in the Pays d'Oc. This grape variety thrives in large parts of southern France, and Laurent Delaunay cleverly exploits the differences in soil type and microclimate. The grapes are selected from three different regions.

The oldest vines, planted near Nîmes, have deep roots, providing richness and roundness. The grapes from the limestone clay soil of the Béziers plain lend firmness, while the poor, calcareous soil near Carcassonne adds freshness.

A small portion (10%) of the blend is then aged in oak barrels. The result is a Syrah with remarkable complexity for this price range. Simply delicious!

Interesting detail: the name La Tour des Dames changed to La Cour des Dames from the 2014 harvest onwards because the famous Château Latour in Bordeaux (!) objected to the use of the old name.
